If sustainable fashion had a front-row seat at Fashion Week, Michelle Alleyne would be striding down the runway with purpose—and a podcast mic in hand. The renowned strategist, educator and environmental advocate is making waves once again with the launch of The Ethical Stitch, a thought-provoking podcast that couldn’t arrive at a more urgent time.
Launching on Earth Day (of course), The Ethical Stitch is more than a podcast—it’s a mission. “I created it to push the conversation beyond the classroom,” Michelle says, referring to her teaching stints at Parsons, FIT, and even the NYT x Vogue Summer Schools. “It’s about real-world impact—fixing the supply chain, shaping policy, driving change.”
Michelle’s industry insight runs deep—from the catwalk to the cutting room floor. One moment that stayed with her? “Seeing how much fabric was wasted in factories—perfectly good material just discarded. It was heartbreaking.” It’s why she champions innovations like Fabscrap, and why she’s calling for more designers to rethink their production models.
Her own “conscious closet” is part aspiration, part activism. “Every new piece I buy has to be bold, lasting and, above all, ethically made,” she says. “But I also hold designers accountable—style without sustainability isn’t stylish anymore.”

As for the role of her podcast? “It’s a platform for truth, change, and connection,” Michelle explains. “Because if we’re not talking about the future of fashion with urgency and intention, we’re simply dressing up the problem.”
With The Ethical Stitch, Michelle isn’t just having the conversation—she’s leading it. Tune in, or be left behind.
