Lilja is a true girls girl from Iceland that is at the moment preparing the launch of her exotic line of volcanoes and glacier perfumes in the UK, Norway and wider.
At the age of 24 Lilja was determined to launch a brand that stood out from other brands. She wanted to give women a range of accessories and designer perfumes that would give them individuality and strength. Armed with a small budget she soon achieved her goals by launching her brand in 2008. Since then, her perfumes and accessories have become firm favourites with women all over the world, which includes many celebrities that are a fan of her products.
Lilja´s perfume collections by Gydja is a line of three truly unique fragrances and something we haven´t seen before, as they are the only glacier and volcano perfumes in the world. They are called after the glacier that they come from, Eyjafjallajökull is the first female perfume that came out from Gydja, the next was Vatnajökull for men and then Hekla for ladies. All made from the glaciers and volcanoes that they are named after. And that is not all, they also come with a piece of authentic lava stone from the volcano.
- You’re famous in Iceland, and use your fame to promote women empowerment. How do you feel about Angelina Jolie-Pitt speech on women’s rights at the African Union Summit in June? How amazing that you brought Angelina up, she is my role model and has been ever since I was a little girl. What she is doing for humanities in general is without a doubt one of the most important thing that a Hollywood star has ever done to use her fame in a way to make the world a better place. Her speech is so amazing that it is hard to describe with words but this quote from the speech says allot about the vision I have for organisation Empower Women and why I started the project in the first place:
“Women’s rights are the key to build free, open, democratic and peaceful society. We need polices for long term security that are designed by women, focused on women, executed by women, not by the expense of men or instead of men but alongside and with men.”
- You are now a role model for women. Who inspired you when you were growing up?
My largest inspiration is my mother. She is strong, she pushes herself to go out of the box. She works allot and she throws speeches for large groups as well as leading meetings. I think that was very important factor to have as a role model growing up, being able to look at my mother and she being so strong and powerful. That is why I always encourage women to push themselves and follow their dreams, not just for themselves but for the world and for their daughters. The world needs us to be living our dreams.
- How did you become so successful?
Well first of all, thank you so much for saying that. I think a huge part of a success is to never ever give up! Even though you are at the point that you can’t see how in the world that your dream would ever work. I have been through highs and lows in my journey, the failures have been many and some big, even so big that I was not sure I would be able to continue following my dream. Times have been so touch that even starting the day and going out of bed was hard. But what kept me going through those difficult times was the believe that I have in my heart that I am meant to continue and to use my journey to help other women, that the world was teaching me and preparing me for big things to come. And like I always say to women on my Empower Women courses that failures are all a part of the progress in our journey to our dream life. If you would not fail and learn from the small things on the way you would not handle the pressure when your dream has come to life. We are protected all the way and all our failures are according to plan. If you let small failures stop you the universe knows that you are not ready for your big dream. So get up, say thank u for your failures and figure out what to learn from them and get back on the horse!!
