SAT Test Prep Tips!


There were nearly two million students who took the SAT in 2015; which was a jump from the previous year’s number. Today, in 2017, one can only imagine that it has increased since then. For many seniors in high school, who are looking to get into their top college choice, scoring well on your SAT has to be a top priority. The only way to do so is to study! As with anything else in life, preparation is key.

When you’re prepared, the test – which covers an array of subjects – won’t be so overwhelming. Here are a few tips to help you do well on your testing day.

Rest up the night before!

A lot of students cram the night before a big test. And unfortunately, the tactic is draining. At least 12 hours before your test, you should be resting so your brain is refueled, and refreshed by the morning.

If you’ve been studying for weeks, your brain has processed a lot of information. And you don’t want it to go on overload before the big day. Your evening should be spent meditating, staying away from electronic devices before bed time, and doing a brief overview of your notes. But that’s it.

Pack your things ahead of time.

SAT testing usually occurs in the morning time, so you should allow yourself ample time to get ready when you wake up. In order to avoid a sense of urgency – you should not feel rushed the morning of – prepare the things you need.

Pack your pencils, erasers, a (healthy) snack, bottle of water, and anything else that is allowed in your testing facility, ahead of time.

So once your alarm goes off, you’re not running around looking for everything – risking your early arrival. You do not want to be late and miss any instructions given!

Don’t skip any questions!

So, the test sheets have been handed out, and the clock has begun its countdown. You’re cruising through the first couple of pages and then you hit a roadblock, or two – questions that have you stuck. But you swear you know the answer!

Your first inclination might be to skip the question altogether, but leave enough answer bubbles blank, and your overall score could be greatly affected. Again, don’t risk it.

Take a brief moment to recollect your thoughts, and go back to the question. Choose the answer that makes the most sense, to the best of your ability. It’s better than leaving it blank.

Eat your breakfast.

This ties in well with the first couple of points made. When you got enough sleep, wake up early, and are prepared in the morning, you have time to fuel up. Skipping out on what many deem to be the “most important meal of the day,” will have consequences.

The SAT test runs for 3 hours, and trying to tame a grumbling stomach during this allotted time can be a distraction. You’ll want to be focused, and making sure you have enough fuel will be an advantage to you.
