Most recently Morris 8 have released their single “Captivated” which represents the cutting edge of avant-garde pop music. Here Morris 8 shift gears towards an easier-listening soulful indie vibe where the band crafts a lush, airy and ethereal sound. The song is awash in sophisticated jangly guitars and longing acoustic guitar interludes while the vocals broodingly sing seductively, supported by honey and silk harmonies.
Even though the song is textured and layered, it is never bogged down. Both a declaration of devotion and dreaminess, Morris 8 carves out an elegant and inspired song, which is nuanced and incredibly subtle; the hooks masterful and the instrumental interplay understated.
John MacRae, Ben Aitchison and Robert Blanchet have an overall sound that is lush but alive, glossy but with a vital pulse. Lyrically their songs are evocative and atmospheric. Their compositions are all worked into perfection and yet the feel is still warm and inviting; something close to a miracle of studio alchemy, considering the distances between them.
