Marketing On A Budget It Can Be Done

small businesses

For many small businesses, often those run from home with just one person doing everything, marketing can be something that sounds and feels pretty scary. It can also be something that eats into the budget in such a way that it becomes impossible actually to do. However, it is also essential. This conundrum can be solved easily; marketing can be done on a budget, and it can work. Here are some ideas on how to get started.

Word of mouth is one of the best, and cheapest (even free) ways to market your business. All you need to do is impress your customers enough that they will tell their friends, family, and work colleagues about you. When that happens, more and more people will start to use your services, and they will also tell people; the effect can be wide-reaching. To ensure that people do give you a referral, why not set up a scheme wherein they and the person they refer will receive a discount if a sale is made?

Having a great logo is one of the best ways to begin marketing. Logos don’t have to cost a lot; you might even be able to design one yourself if you have the necessary artistic skills. Work out which colors are going to work for you, and use them to your advantage. Blue, for example, promotes a calm feeling, whereas red suggests excitement and urgency. The logo itself needs to stand out and be recognized no matter where it is placed. If you promote it well, people will be able to link your services to that logo whenever they see it.

Networking Events

Networking events are either free or cost only a small amount to attend. They are certainly worth going to, as you could meet your next big client, or at least meet people who will be happy to mention your products and services to others. Take business cards or custom button pins with you and hand them out to as many people as possible.

Get Involved In The Community

If your local community has fairs and fetes, then why not have a stall there and promote your services? Or perhaps you could be involved in local sporting events, even down to sponsoring the team. You could even run free workshops or give talks that relate to your services or products. Depending on what your business sells, there are numerous ways to become noticed in your area.

Create A Brochure

A brochure is a great and classic sales tool. Although many people use the internet for their purchases, there is something great about speaking to someone face to face and being handed a well-produced, attractive, and informative brochure to take away with you to browse at your leisure. Giving a brochure to someone means that your business can be with them wherever they go for the rest of the day, and they can look at your products in their own time, without feeling rushed. That fosters a sense of good feeling towards you. It also means that others could spot your brochure, and, just like word of mouth, you could make sales this way.
