Interview with Steven Dunn

There’s a song on the ‘Love’ album entitled Song for my First Love that I wrote for my mom.

Tell us about yourself, your music and your latest EP series ?
I’m a musician living in Nashville, TN that is putting out a four part series this year entitled: God, Love, And, Death.  It was inspired by my affinity for Johnny Cash. We live-tracked the majority of the albums in 12 hours over two days in my hometown of Bloomington, IN and I can’t wait for them to all be out.

Who has inspired you in your life, how and why?
This could likely be an entire book.  My mom, Johnny Cash, Jon Foreman, my wife, AJ Moye against Duke in 2002, there are countless people I could point to at various stages in my life for inspiration.

There’s a song on the ‘Love’ album entitled Song for my First Love that I wrote for my mom. The last verse talks about me sitting on her lap while she practiced hymns for the church. Moments like that definitely had a lasting impact on me as a person and inspired me as a musician.

What is your personal greatest musical achievement so far?
Self-booking an international tour.

Do you have any tips for our readers that are trying to break in the music industry?
If you’re not good at taking rejection then you should stop now. Work tirelessly and be a good person. There’s no secret formula that’s going to make things work for you.
