Interview with rising rap star Roland

When I finished the track I couldn’t stop playing it.  As an artist I try to diversify the style of hip-hop I make, but that old-school boom bap has always been my favorite.

One of the things we take pride in is searching for new talent and featuring them on our site for the world to see. For many years we have been the first source to discover hidden stars and showcase them to a wide audience. This case is no different. Our featured artist hails from Pittsburgh and is slowly progressing toward making his name be known within the hip hop community.

The new artist that I am speaking of is Roland. This talented rapper is already on the rise with his hit single “Watchu Wait’n For”. We talked with Roland to hear more about his single and also his plans for his music career.

IMoveMag: Why did you select this song as your current single?

Roland: When I finished the track I couldn’t stop playing it.  As an artist I try to diversify the style of hip-hop I make, but that old-school boom bap has always been my favorite.

IMoveMag: How does this single relate to the rest of the Album, EP or Mix-tape?

Roland: It ties in well with the rest of the work I’ve been doing.  So far most music I make has had a similar, soulful vibe.

IMoveMag: What was the writing process for the song?

Roland: Same as always, I try not to think about what I’m saying too much.  The more I feel it out, and express my heart the better they seem to be.

IMoveMag: What does this song’s lyric mean to you?

Roland: Don’t stop or slow up.  Whatchu wait’n around for if you’re not working toward what and where you want to be in life.

IMoveMag:  What would it be like to see you in person performing this song

I’ve never performed before so I have no idea.  All I can say is I hope whoever watching would feel it as much as I do.

IMoveMag: Could your fans summarize who you are as an artist by this song?

Roland: I don’t think any one song could summarize anyone as an artist.  Every song I make is a different part of who I am or how I felt the moment I was making it.  That being said, “Whatchu Wait’n For” is for sure a solid bit my persona.

IMoveMag: Is there a video planned and or completed and if so, what was the idea behind the video?

Roland: I’ve had some ideas for a video, but no camera or crew to make one yet.  Hopefully I’ll find some free time and be able to cover the expenses to put one into production.

IMoveMag: One last question, what is your motivation behind your music?

Roland: I draw motivation from many aspects of my life, family, friends, God, the need for change, and the love of Hip-hop.
