Interview with Rachael Levine founder of ARAE

Being part Japanese, I wanted to bring this craft into my ready to wear and accessories collection so more people could appreciate its beauty as well.

rachaelWhat inspired you to start your brand?
The inspiration for my brand ARAE came from my love of nature, which I’ve had my whole life, and even more so from the Japanese tie dye technique called Shibori. Being part Japanese, I wanted to bring this craft into my ready to wear and accessories collection so more people could appreciate its beauty as well.

What is the brand’s philosophy?
ARAE focuses on refined construction, bold design, free spirited in mind. We want our customers to feel unique knowing that no fabric will be exactly the same being that it is hand dyed, yet each piece is easy to wear everyday. Also free in knowing its intuitively designed with inpiration from nature showing off the abstract, yet symmetrical patterns you often see in the outdoors.

What has been your greatest achievement so far?
My greatest achievement so far has been being chosen and currently competing as one of the Emerging Designers in this year’s Phoenix Fashion Week. After going through a 4 month long Designer Boot Camp, one of 13 will win Designer of the Year. It is an amazing program with so much opportunity and exposure with industry professionals.
