Interview with NYC based actress Katie Vincent

Prego won the Best Comedy Short Award at the 2015 Manhattan Film Festival, Best Comedy Short Award at the 2015 Chain NYC Film Festival.

I had the privilege to interview actress and writer Katie Vincent who plays a role in the award winning short comedy film Prego. She went to the New York University Tisch School Performing Arts and the Lee Strasberg Theatre and Film Institute. Read the interview to find out more about her and the short comedy film Prego.

Tell us about yourself and what you do and how you got to be in Prego
The name is Katie Vincent and I’m an NYC based actor, writer, songwriter, and visual artist. I’m a total film buff, so naturally, I do mostly indie film work. So far I’ve done a good amount of features, shorts, episodic work, and commercials. Went to NYU Tisch. For specifics you can visit my website, www.katievincent.com.

Who has inspired you in your acting life and why?
My tops are Joaquin Phoenix, Marlon Brando, Cate Blanchett, and Jim Carey. I’d love to be the square root of all four. Maybe pepper in some Streisand. In earnest, these guys gave me an appreciation for the various facets of human expression at their finest. And for that I am thankful.

What is your greatest achievement in film so far?
My greatest achievement in film thus far?…is being allowed to do film thus far. Every day  onset or with an email in my inbox about a prospective project is a success and a wonder, so far as I can see. I pay taxes on this stuff… I win!

Do you have any tips for our readers that are trying to break in the industry?
Keep going and keep making movies. Please. Act as much as you can. Earn your keep and make your magic. It’s hokey, but maybe that’s the point.

Can you tell us about your role in the film Prego?
I play the role of Emily – Emily is the ‘Little Engine That Could’. We all make mistakes, and throughout the film she is trying her best to make the best out of her really crappy situation. She’s sassy, and honest – so far as I can see, a true-blue fighter. Sure, she has moments of weakness, but she seems pretty damn determined to make it work. After all, she’s having a baby! And that comes first…Granted, the ending is a bit of a twist, but maybe it’s truly a blessing in disguise (no spoilers!).

Tell me about Prego, what is it about?
Prego is a short comedy film, directed by Usher Morgan. The film tells the story of Emily, a young woman confronting a one-night stand with the revelation that she’s pregnant. Things go from bad to worse when Emily discovers that Mark is not an ideal father figure.

Did the film Win Any Awards in Festivals?
It sure did, Prego gained some national recognition and received positive reviews across the board. It won the Best Comedy Short Award at the 2015 Manhattan Film Festival, Best Comedy Short Award at the 2015 Chain NYC Film Festival, 2 awards from the 2015 Indie Fest Film Festival, and the Best Comedy award at the 2015 Trinity International Film Festival. In total the film received 6 wins and 5 nominations.
