Interview with Miami based artist Mr. Mystique

I paint to express Ascension. My pieces are a reminder of what is possible if we think higher thoughts. We move in the direction that we think in.

Tell us about yourself and what you do
I am a starving, emerging artist in Miami, FL. I live in a rundown, Black, subcity ghetto. It is common here in Miami to be in poverty, but frequently see people of wealthy backgrounds all around. Being surrounded by poverty and crime can begin to wear you down if you let it. I don’t let it. That’s where the significance of my artwork comes in. I paint to express Ascension. My pieces are a reminder of what is possible if we think higher thoughts. We move in the direction that we think in.

Who has inspired you in your life and why?
My artwork is mostly inspired by 3 other artists; Jackson Pollock, Jean-Michel Basquiat, and Christopher Wool.

What is your greatest achievement so far?
My greatest achievement so far is staying afloat in an environment that is at times, toxic, dangerous, and yet full of culture.

Do you have any tips for our readers that are trying to break in the industry?
I advise other artists to develop their own niche, and voice to express their artistry. Find your artistic voice, and break bread with as many other artists as possible.
