Gregory Sylvia is an emerging leather-goods brand based in Charlotte, NC. Gregory Sylvia was co-founded by husband and wife team Gregory and Terri “Sylvia” Pope.
What inspired you to start your brand/business?
We noticed a lack of diversity in the leather goods market. So, we wanted to start a business in which we could showcase our talents of design within the fashion industry. While we are currently designing handbags specifically for women, our future goals include expanding the Gregory Sylvia brand into additional accessories including collections for men.
What is the brand’s philosophy?
“Uptown Luxury” is the slogan that reflects the identity of the Gregory Sylvia brand. Our products provide a sense of both elegance and power for the woman who is stylish and accomplished. With a background in 2D design and 3D design, our brand’s philosophy is to provide high quality products through cutting-edge design.
What has been your greatest achievement so far?
When launching our brand we outperformed our original sales goal. Since then, we have experienced steady growth with our products now in the hands of celebrities including former U.S. Secretary of labor Alexis Herman, singer/actress Brandy Norwood, and comedian Sheryl Underwood. Most recently our brand was ranked among the top 5 Black-owned handbag brands. We are now excited about expanding the brand to select retail locations with our new collection. Outside of the traditional business operations, we also love to give back. Talking to youth, providing small scholarships, and donating to cancer awareness charities are all achievements that we have enjoyed providing to our community.
