Be authentic or don’t bother. Even if you become rich and famous, without authenticity, life is flavorless. Don’t focus on approval, focus on the joy that what you are doing creates for you.

doubleheadTell us about yourself and what you do
I am a singer songwriter from California. My musical background is in Jazz drumming and composition. I suppose you could say I was inspired by Bjork and Radiohead a little for this album. Really just ideas that poured out of me after really living life and not running from painful experiences. I used to chef in Hollywood for some famous people. Cooking and Jazz have subtle similarities. I feel like being a jazz drummer gives me an authentically unique sense of rhythm and a different viewpoint of music.

Who has inspired you in your life and why?
I am inspired by Ramana_Maharshi, Ghandi, Tesla, John Coltrane, Paul Staments, any being that is willing to live in their authenticity and create resulting positive change. I feel like the meaning of my life is to communicate with others through rhythm.

When I play jazz, I have no expectation – just whimsical acceptance of whatever shows up to be observed. That state of mind is very inspiring as well.

What is your greatest achievement so far?
Well, things that have happened that in my life that really make me smile are: Having my daughter and raising her. My relationship with my wife. And then we have my new album – ∞=1 (my artist name is Doublehead)

This album was a quest. I had to trade every skill I have to acquire the resources to create it properly. It took me 4 years. I studied vocals with Ron Anderson extensively, had a special mic hand-built for me. My engineer/producer Bruce Winter put a level of care and love into this album that I could never expect. And now I have just created the word’s first Virtual Record. That’s an app for Oculus Rift which allows you to wander through a virtual world while listening to my music and looking at art. Really excited that I managed to create something so new and unique.

Do you have any tips for our readers that are trying to break in the industry?
Be authentic or don’t bother. Even if you become rich and famous, without authenticity, life is flavorless. If you are authentic, someone will react. And then another person. Before you know it many people will love what you are doing. Don’t focus on approval, focus on the joy that what you are doing creates for you.
