Interview with Cara Diane + Co

A lot of my designs revolve around creating art that is super wearable. To me, art is too dynamic to live only on a wall. I really like designing graphic tees, because I feel like they are so simple, but yet can say so much about you.

tshirtWhat inspired you to start your brand?
I think the inspiration to start Cara Diane + Co. really came from my affinity for being unique. I like to say that we are “uber inspired by originality.” I wanted to create my own pieces of apparel and accessories that really captured my personality. Through that process I found that other people felt the same way, like the designs I was creating described them and captured their personal style. I’m so enthusiastic to see that kind of authentic growth.

A lot of my designs revolve around creating art that is super wearable. To me, art is too dynamic to live only on a wall. I really like designing graphic tees, because I feel like they are so simple, but yet can say so much about you. It’s like having your own personal billboard to help you with first impressions. Which, as a little bit of an introvert myself, I am a big fan of.

We have recently expanded into designing more types of apparel, and are rolling out a fall line including some of those pieces in the upcoming weeks!

What is the brand’s philosophy?
The Game Plan: Be Curious. Be Authentic. Be Creative. That’s kind of my personal life motto that spilled over into the brand, which I love. To me, it’s really the best approach to genuinely explore life and then use that curiosity as inspiration to create your own little something.

Another big part of our philosophy is to “be the change.” Not to get all sappy here, but I think it can be easy to get overwhelmed by all the big problems in the world, and even kind of feel like your efforts are small and ineffective. But I think if everyone can just pick one thing that means something to them, and help in a small way then that’s the point. For our brand, that little thing is water. We donate “a drop” of proceeds to Drop in the Bucket, which is an independent non-profit that builds wells and sanitation systems in Sub-Saharan Africa.

What has been your greatest achievement so far?
Our greatest achievement so far has been our Runway Set at the BOLD Showcase in Denver with RAW Artists. We teamed up with Makeup by Winter Love to put together a “Happy Hour” themed runway show. We had a model for each day of the week including: Margarita Monday, Tipsy Tuesday, Wine Wednesday, Thirsty Thursday, Fireball Friday, Sippin’ Saturday, and Sunday Funday.

It was such a busy day, but such a fun experience! We got to do a pre-shoot with all our models before the show which was just a blast. We had a fun lineup of fashion bloggers and media to capture the whole day, from the pre-shoot to all the backstage prep to the runway show itself.
