What’s your name and where are you from?
My name is Brandee J and I’m from San Diego, CA

Tell us about yourself and how you got start in the entertainment industry?
I’ve always had a love for entertainment industry. When I was about 5 years old my father brought home a video camera and my cousin and I would make our own movies and remakes to music videos. My mom took noticed and put me in a special middle school & high school that had a media program. From there I learned about creating shows from start to finish and my love for entertaining grew even more.

About 8 years ago I decided to pursue my dreams of helping women and being the vessel for women. I knew that meant being in the forefront of my brand and putting myself in the spotlight.

Who has inspired you in your life to pursue this and why?
WOW! My inspiration comes from my grandmother, father, mother and my children. My grandmother always taught me to speak my mind, don’t take crap for now and ALWAYS be yourself. My father raised me as boy until I was 13 years old meaning I had to be tough. If I cried I had to cry in silence BC crying was a sign of weakness. My mother taught me to always keep fighting and too figure things out on your own. Being the youngest I was babied but I also had to be tough and figure out a lot on my own which made me very independent.

My children are my inspiration in so many ways. They keep me grounded and allow me to be soft. Having my babies made me a better woman all around.

What is your greatest achievement so far?
My children are my greatest achievements. I was a mother at 21 and I had to learn to love someone more than myself and to raise great people. Watching by daughter grow up into a young woman is breath taking and seeing my son become a little man who is already outspoken and strong lets me know I’m doing something right as a mother.

I see your part of the Kurvy Girl movement, can you tell us a little about it and how you became such an advocate for plus size women?
I have always been plus size! I was born a kurvy baby, LOL! Being plus size my whole life I was teased and made fun off. My dad use to call me Miss. Piggy as a child and of course I was teased by kids at school until I put this boy in a headlock and that was the end of that, lol.

As I got older and came into my purpose as a women I knew I was meant to do something more with my life and I knew I was put here to help women. After I had my son I was a size 24 the biggest I have ever been and I felt like there was nothing out there for us. During my weight loss of 50lbs I decided to do something about it! I opened up a plus size boutique online and over the years I was put in the role of becoming an advocate for plus size women.

You work with a lot of celebrities, who has been your favorite celebrities you’ve met and what was your favorite Interview thus far?
I would have to say my favorite interview thus far would have to have been with Lil Mama. During that interview we connected on losing a parent and I remember her comforting me over the phone regarding the loss of my father. It was such an amazing feeling to see how she was more concerned about me during the interview. It truly humbled me in so many ways. She is truly an amazing woman!

What are you plans for your upcoming season now that you’re on the Nu TV Network?
We have SO much in store for the new upcoming season! I have a new producer for the show Ernest Jackson who has been in the industry for years! I’m so excited with the new direction of the show for season 2! Just watch you are going to love it!!

What advice would you offer to aspiring television personalities who are thinking about going the indie route to start out?
JUST DO IT! It sounds corny but you have to take a chance in yourself. I’m not the ideal media personality and when others told me NO, I turned it into a YES for me and created my own platform. The same thing that Issa Rae did! You cannot be scared to start out on your own. Just go for it!

I see you have young kids, how do you balance a career with your family responsibilities?
It’s an ongoing battle for me for a number of reasons! At times I feel like I’m not giving enough to my kids or career but when my kids tell me too keep going I know I’m doing everything right. I block certain days just for them where we go out for the day and just have fun. Plus every time they do something with mom I make it a HUGE event, which is bad lol BC now they always expect the WOW effect with me.

Are there any celebrities you want to interview but haven’t yet?
YES! Issa Rae, Beyoncé, Michelle Obama, Lala Anthony, Martha Stewart, Lil Kim, P. Diddy, Snoop Dogg, Hilary Clinton, Nick Cannon, Kevin Hart, Steve Harvey, Tyrese, LeBron James and the list goes on and on! One day I WILL interview them all!

You also own your own plus size magazine how did that come about and who’s graced the covers far?
Luxe Kurves Magazine is my other baby! I wanted to do something more for the industry and again for woman. I wanted to showcase kurvy/plus size woman in a light where we should be showcased. Luxury, Class, Style and more! I also wanted to showcase the lifestyle of a plus size women that showed more than just fashion. I want the world to see that we love to travel, we love going out to fine dining restaurants, we love music, and we love Chanel! Luxe Kurves Magazine showcases just that!

We have had Grammy nominated Syleena Johnson on our cover, Marquese Houston, Plus Size model Zyonses & more to come!

Do you have any expert tips for our readers that are trying to break in the plus size modeling industry?
Yes! My number one tip would be to build your portfolio and EDUCATE yourself on the industry before you just get into it. Know the industry standards!
