Interview with artist Draaco Aventura

Music and dancing got me through my 4 tours in Iraq as a Soldier. I would perform on open mic night, and dance on Latin Nights.

Tell us about yourself and what you do
I am a Pop/Latin fusion artist who produces his own music as well as develop the melodies and write the songs. I feel that I have finally developed the skills and tools needed to bring all my music from my mind and vision to life to impact the lives of others. Music has been my therapy for my lifetime. It kept me out of trouble growing up very poor in the public housing projects in Valdosta, GA. Without it I most likely could have been drawn into drug selling and gang street life that so many others got drawn into.

I was a natural artist. I took to singing, dancing, and acting very easily and relied on it during times of trouble. Music and dancing got me through my 4 tours in Iraq as a Soldier. I would perform on open mic night, and dance on Latin Nights, that is how I kept my mental health as best as it could be given the horrors and stress of war.

Who has inspired you in your life and why?
My Mother Shelia James is my inspiration in life. I watched her as single mother struggle through our financial hardships, food and home insecurity, domestic violence, legal issues, family conflict, fights, and the random acts of violence that would occur around us. I admire her tenacity and willingness to never give up, and to always be driven to find a solution to the many problems that we encountered during her time raising 4 children alone. Growing up under her care and leadership has taught me to value working smarter, maximizing opportunities pursuing every advantage that is available and never accepting defeat. She is responsible for my resourcefulness and great strength of character.

What is your greatest achievement so far?
My greatest achievement so far is earning the recognition and respect of family and friends of my talent as an Artist. I was also a recurring member of a group cast on House of Cards. I was a principal actor on BET TV Series Criminals at work where I portrayed Keith Nicks. I have several other credits on my imdb profile for acting, voice over, and modelling.

Do you have any tips for our readers that are trying to break in the industry?

My advice for anyone trying to break into the industry is to develop your sound and take your time getting your songs written and sounding right during the mixing and mastering phase. Be sure that you evaluate the vocals for pronunciation, proper lyrics, and matching tonality and be sure to add voice color and character when possible and appropriate in the song. if you think you have a hit, be sure to promote it like you believe it can be a chart hit. Apply the right budget get funding, do whatever you can because if you do not make the effort no one else will.
