What inspired you to start your brand/business?
I was introduced to a celebrity makeup artist based out of Miami. After a few months of working together she approached me about starting a cosmetics line. She and I decided to start Liquid Courage Cosmetics. Our deal was that I would handle the behind the scenes operations and she would be the face of the brand. I started to really love the industry so I put together a proposal to own 100% of the Liquid Courage Cosmetics. As of Jan 14 I became the sole owner of Liquid Courage Cosmetics. I’m not a makeup artist but I have a passion for people and I understand the power beauty has in this world.
What is the brand’s philosophy?
Liquid Courage takes pride in serving the woman that provides meaning and value to her family, occupation, and the community she serves. As a women owned company, Liquid Courage Cosmetics understands YOU. Liquid Courage is more than a brand it’s a lifestyle. Real Women Are Beautiful. Real Women Are Ambitious. Real Women Are Courageous. That’s the Liquid Courage Way.
What have you learnt as a successful entrepreneur?
One of the things that I’ve learned about successful entrepreneurs is that they make sacrifices. Successful entrepreneurs hustle until the dream comes alive. I leverage my lunchtime at work to make calls and work on the brand. I wake up at 5am daily and leverage the fact that I’m on the west coast to schedule conference calls with my east coast manufacturers and prospective brand partners. One of the many lessons I’ve learned as a small start up company that your actions must be strategic and efficiency is key especially when you are balancing a 9-5 and running a business.
What accomplishments are you most proud of?
I’ve been blessed to have the opportunity to work at reputable Fortune 500 companies including Microsoft and Goldman Sachs & Co. I’m proud that I run my own business now and the progress made from two lip lacquers to a collection of twelve matte lipsticks and lip lacquers.
