How to Stay Comfortable in the Workplace During Pregnancy

There are times during pregnancy when you can become uncomfortable and need to start making adjustments to your routine. Not only do your clothes start to get tighter, but you will also start to feel exhausted and less able to do certain tasks. It can become even more of a problem at work when you have to wear certain things or do a particular task. Here are some of the ways that you can adjust your working day to make it easier in the last few months of pregnancy.

Speak to Your Employer

Your employer should have already been informed when you first became pregnant, but as time goes by, there may be additional things that you will need help arranging. Firstly, you need to speak to your boss about your work, to make sure that there are no jobs you shouldn’t be doing. If you regularly have to lift heavy objects or you are required to be on your feet all day, then your employer should be discussing with you how they can work around it. It could be that you need to take on another job while you are pregnant and leave your job to someone else. The other option is that they give those specific parts of your job to someone else temporarily. Another thing that you need to be discussing is your workwear; this can be especially difficult if you need to wear certain clothing for your job, such as healthcare. Wear Comfortable Clothing

Wearing something that is too tight, can be uncomfortable for you and your baby, so try to avoid workwear that no longer fits. It is also a good idea to wear loose fitting clothes because it allows the air to circulate and keep you cool. Legs and feet often swell during pregnancy, and it can be a bother sometimes in the workplace. Avoid the High Heels

You may love your high heeled shoes, but you shouldn’t be wearing anything like that, especially in the later stages of pregnancy. The hormone progesterone that is released during pregnancy not only makes your feet start to swell, it can also make you feel off balance. Both of these things are not a good combination for high heels, so start to use comfortable shoes with little or no heel.

Keep Hydrated

Keeping yourself hydrated is important all the time, but it becomes especially important when you are pregnant. Dehydration is one of the main causes of early labor pains, so you need to ensure you are drinking plenty throughout the day. The downside is of course that you will be going to the bathroom more often, but that is a small price to pay for a healthy pregnancy. You should avoid having too many caffeinated drinks, as this will take away some of the water that you are drinking, it is best to stick to water or fruit juices.

Eat Healthily

Of course, you want to give your baby the best possible start to their life, so making sure you eat healthily is important. It will also help to make sure your body isn’t missing any vital nutrients or vitamins that it needs. Try to eat as balanced a diet as possible including whole grains and lean proteins; you should also be eating full-fat yogurts and milk if possible to help with the baby’s bone development. Eating at the beginning of pregnancy can be difficult because of morning sickness, but you need to try and keep your energy levels up, or you might find yourself feeling faint. Ensure You Take Regular Breaks

One of the biggest issues, when you are in the last few months of pregnancy, is tiredness and exhaustion. Both can be severe, and so you need to take regular breaks from whatever you are doing. Even tasks that involve you sitting at your desk need breaks every so often, though this is a good thing. Just as you need to rest, you also need to move around now and then. Keeping active can also help you and the baby stay healthy.

Keep Stress to a Minimum

Too much stress is no good for anyone, but it can be especially bad for pregnant women. Not only will it make you feel bad, but it can also be unhealthy for you and the baby, especially if you have problems with your blood pressure.
