Evening Wear Outfit Ideas

No matter the season, trends, your age or your size, evening wear really is never easy. All of us are a little too familiar with the struggle of standing in front of a wardrobe full of clothes, with the overwhelming frustration and realisation that in this huge closet there is absolutely nothing for us to wear to the event that we’re supposed to be at, well, right now. So, let’s put that horrible feeling to rest and instead use these outfit tips and styling pointers to make sure we’re always looking fabulous and ready to go (on time, this time!) …

Leather Boots and a High Neck

This one is the perfect trans-seasonal outfit – you’re going to be reaching for it again and again, come rain or shine. Start with finding yourself the perfect pair of knee-high boots, if you don’t already have these in your wardrobe then stop what you’re doing and go buy some. Choose an A-line mini skirt in leather, corduroy or lightweight linen. Make it a dark neutral such as navy, chocolate brown or burgundy for colder nights and opt for beige or cream for summer evenings. Next, tuck in either a loose fit crew neck tee shirt (for warmer nights) or your favourite knitted turtleneck. A leather clutch bag and a wine toned lipstick will finish this ever-so-chic look of amazingly.

The Silky Slip

A silk slip dress is just essential in every woman’s wardrobe – it’s so worth investing in! Now, this piece can honestly be styled, layered and flaunted to every occasion, every day, however, this is how to style for evening wear. Slide into a pair of strappy kitten heels in a refined champagne tone and grab a linen or cotton plush clutch in the same shade. The finishing touch here is going to be an evening jacket (but for wintertime, a leather biker style jacket is thoroughly encouraged). Choose a loose, kimono fit sequin-studded style for ultimate glamour. Line your eyes with smudgy liner, slick on some lip gloss and pull your hair into a messy ballerina bun.

Jeans and a Nice Top

We all know the default jeans-and-a-nice-top eveningwear outfit, we’ve been doing it for years, right? Well, it’s time that famous look had a little bit of a renaissance. Choose a pair of mid-wash blue boyfriend jeans in a slightly wide-leg style. Add an intricately embellished belt and tuck in a close-fitting silk cami. A pair of platform wedges and a gold choker necklace will make this outfit feel dressier.

Breezy and Bohemian Co-Ords

A co-ord outfit is so comfortable and cute you’ll forget you’re all dressed up for a night out on the town! Look for an elegant lacey boho blouse and wide-leg short combo for a beautifully relaxed yet fashionable outfit. Pair with espadrilles, a beaded evening bag and a pair of statement resin or shining gold hoops. A whimsical braid and glowing, golden makeup are the perfect finishing touches here.

Late Night Tailoring

Tailoring doesn’t have to just exist at the office! An oversized blazer is going to take your eveningwear game up a level. Play on the androgynous tone of this outfit and choose a pair of chunky sneakers or heavy-soled brogues, grab an on-trend, close-fitting satin midi skirt, tuck in a V-neck cami in a complementary tone and throw your blazer on over the top. Some gold stud earrings, a high pony with a satin ribbon and some white socks, and you’ll be the most stylish woman in the room!

Women’s evening wear doesn’t have to be complicated or tricky! Any of these outfits are going to totally save you when the next I-have-nothing-to-wear crisis hits.
