Starting a new fitness regime or taking up an active hobby can be a great way to feel motivated and positive, and if you start now you may have time to get to your target fitness level and weight in time for summer. There are loads of interesting ways to improve your cardiovascular health and strengthen and tone your muscles, so why limit yourself to boring sessions at the gym or running out on the same old streets for every workout? Here are three fun forms of exercise that you may not have considered, but which can help you lose weight, shape up and feel great, all while having a good time!
Fitness Video Games
If you like the idea of exercising at home but don’t have room for loads of equipment, and find workout videos dated and uninspiring, why not try some interactive fitness by investing in an Xbox 360 or Xbox One with Kinect? If you don’t already have a console, and aren’t particularly interested in playing other types of games, then getting the older Xbox 360 with Kinect will cost you very little as it is a past generation console and can be easily bought second hand. There are games for all kinds of different exercise, from dance and Zumba to interval training and yoga, and while some of them are intense fitness programs, others, like Dance Central can double as fun party games, as well as giving you a great aerobic workout you won’t get bored of.
Rollerblades, Skateboards and Scooters
If you like exercising outside but are bored of running or cycling, doing something more challenging (and a little more cool) like rollerblading, skateboarding or using stunt scooters can be a really fun way to work out. While you may think of these as teen sports, the ‘90s skater kids have all grown up now and many of them still skate, so there’s no need to feel weird about enjoying these sports if you are over 21. These also have the added bonus of giving you a new option for getting around.
Green Projects
If you are interested in helping the environment, there are plenty of projects you can get involved with where building, planting and other heavy duty gardening is involved. By volunteering for these kinds of things, you will get a great workout by doing some physical labour, it won’t cost you anything, and you’ll be helping a good cause at the same time. This can be a great idea if you want to do something physical and active but find you need more motivation than just the benefits of working out by itself. They can also be a good way to do something manual and outdoors if you have a sedentary office job, and no garden of your own.
These are just three of the fun activities that can help you get in shape without opting for more traditional methods like jogging or going to the gym!
